Find A Niche, Not A Population

At Nic Harry we make bold and colourful socks and accessories. Sometimes we take that a bit too far and we create insanely colourful and bright items that I think will be loved by everyone immediately. Basically, I think everyone is like me and wants to embrace colour.

Then I look around and realise that everyone is quite the opposite. Most people want to carry on along their merry way avoiding the outrageous.

That’s the population.

I’m looking for a niche.

Today I went out wearing one of our craziest scarves. It’s a custom design that’s bright and bold and stands out amidst dreary Winter colours that men usually wear.

Surprisingly I received a few comments about the great scarf that I have on. This gently reminded me that I am hunting for a niche, not a population.

Are you building a niche following or buying a legion of people who will forget your brand/business/app/name?
